Founded in 2014 by a team of Scandinavian healthcare professionals and researchers, HAHDO was established to address the growing health challenges created by climate-driven migration. These challenges are especially urgent in regions like East Africa, where scarce resources and increasing climate pressures are impacting communities forced to migrate. From Somalia all the way to Europe, migrating populations face heightened health risks and looming outbreaks that local healthcare systems are often unprepared to handle.
HAHDO works to bridge these gaps. We operate health initiatives, including vaccination drives and disease prevention campaigns, designed specifically for displaced communities. Our approach includes collaborating with schools, villages, and community leaders to map migration routes and collect essential data, giving us insights into health risks faced by mobile populations. By understanding these patterns, we aim to anticipate outbreaks early and deliver targeted support, not just in East Africa but along key migration pathways extending to Europe.
Mission
Protecting Health, Addressing Migration, Preventing Pandemics.
Our mission is to tackle the health risks faced by communities affected by climate-driven migration and to reduce the threat of pandemics along key migration routes. By delivering essential health services, gathering data to anticipate outbreaks, and building sustainable support systems, we empower communities from East Africa to Europe to navigate the health impacts of climate change safely.
Vision
A resilient Africa where migration and health challenges are met with strength and preparedness.
We envision a future where communities impacted by climate migration are safeguarded from health crises and pandemics. Through proactive health measures, data-driven insights, and strong community support, we aim to create a world where climate migration does not compromise health, stability, or resilience.
